The FLOW program is a community-based water quality research program designed to better understand, identify, and respond to sources of pollution. FLOW volunteers collect a weekly ocean water sample and analyze its chemical properties and planktonic composition. Click here to learn more about what we do.
New volunteers: Please register for the first few FLOW Fridays that you want to attend, so we know to expect you. No previous experience is required; training is ongoing!
Existing volunteers will accrue hours regardless of whether they register each week.
FLOW Friday - order of events: meet at the Bolsa Chica State Beach Visitor Center (address below); leave in carpools to the water sample collection site; collect a water sample using a phytoplankton net; return to the Visitor Center for analyses with microscopes and water chemistry instruments.
For FLOW Field Trips: volunteers must first attend FLOW Fridays and are required to fill out state parks volunteer paperwork. Contact volunteers@amigosdebolsachica.org to learn more.
